Giovanni Carnovali (Montegrino Valtravaglia, 1804 - Coltaro, 1873). Painter known by the nickname of il Piccio, the little one. He moved to Bergamo at a young age, where he attended the Carrara Academy, following the teachings of the neoclassical Diotti. His style is inclined towards romanticism and his colors are soft and vaporous. He travels between Parma and Rome to learn about the Italian masters of the eighteenth century, subsequently he is in Paris and again between Rome and Naples. His works, with luminous and transparent atmospheres, recall Tiepolo and Zuccarelli. Among the best-known subjects are biblical, mythological and historical scenes, but also landscapes and portraits of personalities of the bourgeoisie of the time.
