Paolo Caronni, born in Monza in 1779, was a renowned neoclassical engraver of his time. He attended the Brera Academy under the direction of Giuseppe Longhi and distinguished himself as one of the best students of the engraving school. Caronni created numerous works of great importance, including portraits and famous subjects, created both from his own drawings and from the canvases of other artists. His mastery of the burin technique and the precision with which he made the prints were appreciated by the exponents of his time. His skill is also demonstrated in pen drawings, where he simulates the engraving technique. Furthermore, Caronni was an ordinary member of the Brera Academy.
He died in Milan on 2 May 1842 at the age of 62.
