NICOLA CARRINO (1932-2018) Born in 1932 in Taranto, he lived and worked in Rome. Professor of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts until 1992. First collective exhibition in 1952 and first solo exhibition in 1958. From 1952 to 1962 he dedicated himself to pictorial research from realism to informal. From 1962 to 1967 he was part of Gruppo Uno in Rome, carrying out rational research. Since 1967 he has designed public works in relation to architecture and landscape and carries out installation interventions with modular sculptures in iron and stainless steel, which are modular and transformable. He participated in the Venice Biennials (1966, 1970, 1976, 1986), Paris (1967), Sao Paulo, Brazil (1971, 1979), and the Rome Quadrennials (1965, 1973, 1986, 1999). He presented solo exhibitions in the Salone Annunciata galleries in Milan (1970), Galerie M. in Bochum (1976), Galleria Marlborough in Rome (1976), Galerie Denise Renè Hans Mayer in Dusserldorf (1977), Galerie Denise Renè in New York (1978 ), The Mayor Gallery in London (2007), A Arte Invernizzi in Milan (2010). His works are present in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Experimental Museum of Contemporary Art in Turin, the Sammlung Dierichs of the Ruhr-Universitat in Bochum, the Neues Museum für Moderne Kunst in Nuremberg, the Museum Boymans Van Beuningen of Rotterdam, of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Among the permanent works in public spaces he created the façade relief of the IACP Corviale Complex (Rome, 1974) and the Urban Reorganization of Piazza Fontana (Taranto, 1983-1992). Among the awards, the Prize for Sculpture at the XI Biennial of Sao Paulo, Brazil (1971). He received the gold medal from the President of the Republic for the anthological exhibition at MODO in Orvieto in 2010. In 2009 he was appointed Académico Correspondiente de la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes of Buenos Aires. He has been a member of the National Academy of San Luca since 1993 and President in the two-year period 2009-2010. He passed away on May 14, 2018.
