Carlo Casanova Biography

Carlo Casanova was born in Crema on 21 June 1871.
He graduated in engineering from the University of Padua but his greatest passion was art, which is why he decided to abandon the profession of engineer and move to Milan. Here, he became friends with the painter Stefano Bersani and opened a studio.
In addition to painting, he dedicated himself to engraving etchings, with landscape and architectural subjects. Casanova engraved zinc and copper plates, many of which are preserved in museums around the world. In 1942, he moved to Quarna Sotto, a town on Lake Orta where he drew inspiration for some of his works.
Furthermore, the artist was one of the first photographers to understand the great potential of photographic art and began photographing with passion at the end of the nineteenth century. Casanova's photographic archive is still unpublished and is considered to be of great historical and cultural interest.
Casanova died in Quarna Sotto on May 11, 1950.
