Nino Cassani Biography
Nino Cassani was born in Viggiù, Italy, in 1930. After graduating from the Brera Academy in Milan, in the class of prof. Marino Marini, worked as an assistant to the sculptor Luciano Minguzzi starting in 1955. From his first artistic beginnings, he exhibited his works in several important exhibitions, including the 1962 Venice Biennale, the 1963 Paris Biennale (where received the Rodin Prize), the Middelheim Biennial in Antwerp in 1965 and the Rome Quadrennial in 1965. He also participated in several editions of the Carrara International Sculpture Biennial. In 1970, he participated in the exhibition "Milano 70/70 (Century of art in Milan)", organized at the Poldi Pezzoli museum in Milan. Throughout his career, he has participated in many collective and individual exhibitions in Italy and abroad, receiving numerous awards for his work.
Cassani has always preferred to work alone on the material of his works, without the help of others. While many sculptors delegate the work of modeling the sketch to others, Cassani has always faced this process firsthand, so as to be able to convey his point of view and what he perceives at the moment of creation to his observers.
From 1977 to 1981 he was head of the sculpture chair at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, then he led the Accademia Albertina in Turin from 1982 to 1989 and the Accademia Brera in Milan from 1990 to 1995.
Cassani's works are present in many private and public collections both in Italy and abroad. He died in Milan in 2017.
