Catellani & Smith Biography
Enzo Catellani, founder of the Catellani & Smith company in Villa di Serio in 1989, and Carlo Catellani, born in Parma on 27 March 1960, began his career as a blacksmith in a workshop in Fornovo. Logan Smith, on the other hand, was born in Notting Hill on 12 June 1931 and obtained a degree in architecture from the University of Cambridge in 1954. Passionate about the equestrian world, he specialized in the restoration of racecourses and riding clubs, creating in 1981 the project "Tambouring Bluefran Horses Club" in Kentucky, considered his masterpiece. Catellani and Smith met in Menorca (Balearic Islands) in the summer of 1985, during the "International Gin Votaries Meeting". From their meeting was born the idea of starting the design and artisanal production of furnishing lamps and everyday objects. Over the years, the Catellani & Smith brand has become a true symbol of Made in Italy excellence in the lighting sector. The products of this company, which can be considered true works of art, go beyond the concept of a simple lamp. These are objects made strictly by hand, such as the iconic "Turciù" or "il Fil de Fer" lamps. These installations illuminate museums such as the Victoria Albert in London, restaurants, ateliers, shops and trendy venues around the world.
