Gian Paolo Cavagna (Bergamo, circa 1556 – Bergamo, 20 May 1627) was a Renaissance painter who trained at the school of Christopher Baschenis the Elder. He was born in Bergamo around 1550, to a family originally from Santa Croce in Val Brembana who moved to Bergamo in 1547, as can be deduced from a deed in which he declares to be profitens aetatem viginti quinque excessisse. Gian Paolo Cavagna (Bergamo, circa 1556 – Bergamo, 20 May 1627) was a Renaissance painter who trained at the school of Christopher Baschenis the Elder. He was born in Bergamo around 1550, to a family originally from Santa Croce in Val Brembana who moved to Bergamo in 1547, as can be deduced from a deed in which he declares to be profitens aetatem viginti quinque excessisse. He lived in Via Zambonate where he first married Margherita Canubina, with whom he had Caterina and Francesco who, like their father, became painters. Having remained a widower, on 26 November 1611 he married Caterina Minetti for the second time. He died on 20 May 1627 in Bergamo, where he was buried in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, although his body was never found after the destruction of the church and its slightly displaced location.
