Giacomo Cavedone (Sassuolo, 1577 - Bologna, 1660) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period of the Bolognese school.
A pupil of Annibale Carracci, at the time of the latter's departure for Rome, Giacomo Cavedone became Lodovico Carracci's main assistant.
In the autumn of 1609, he went to Rome as assistant to Guido Reni, where he was strongly impressed by Caravaggio's work.
Returning to Bologna between 1611 and 1613, he worked on the decoration of the Arrigoni chapel of the church of San Paolo Maggiore, creating the three frescoed vaults and two side paintings depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Adoration of the Magi.
From 1612 to 1613 he was in Venice. Dating back to 1614 is his painting "Madonna with Child in Glory and Saints Alò and Petronius", now in the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna, where his memories of Caravaggio join those brought back from Venice by Veronese and Titian.
Among his most important works are: "The Glory of Saint Stephen", preserved in the Estense Gallery in Modena, "The Death of Saint Peter Martyr" present in the National Art Gallery of Bologna
