Gianni Celano Biography

The painter and ceramist Gianni Celano known as Giannici, born in Castel San Giovanni. in the province of Piacenza, in 1941 and active in the Albisola kilns starting from the mid-1960s, he participated, in 1966, in the exhibition of ceramics dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy, organized by Tullio d'Albisola on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of coronation of the Madonna of Savona. In the Seventies he was in Paris where he collaborated with various artists including Mimmo Rotella and participated in numerous contemporary art exhibitions including the Paris Biennial. In 1986 he won first prize, ex-equo with Giorgio Bonelli, at the 1st National Ceramics Competition of Savona with the work Piccolo concerto per cielo e terra. He took part in important exhibitions including the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennale and the Basel Exhibition. In the following years he collaborated with the Albisola ceramic factory "Fabbrica Casa Museo Giuseppe Mazzotti 1903" owned by Bepi Mazzotti and his son Tullio (second of first name). Some works, created at the Albisola ceramic factory "Viglietti Ceramiche", owned by Bruno Viglietti, were present at the "Rassegna 2000" exhibition in Albisola in 1991. Since 1999 one of his works has been preserved in the Garden of the Mazzotti Museum.
