Pietro Celotto Biography

He was born into a family of artisans and after graduating from middle school he began working in his father's carpentry shop. He attended evening technical drawing courses at the Montebelluna professional school where he met a professor who, given the young Celotto's aptitude for drawing, encouraged him and helped him continue his studies. He then obtained his artistic high school diploma and enrolled at the Royal Higher Institute of Architecture in Venice where he graduated in 1940 with prof. Carlo Scarpa. In the same year he was entrusted with the direction of the works for the completion of the Cathedral of Montebelluna after the death of the designer Eng. Guido Dall'Armi. Based on Celotto's design, the marble baptistery, the new rectory and the crypt, the apse and the main altar were built between 1960 and 1962. From 1948 he worked on his own and in 1953 he opened a new studio in association with the engineer Aldo Zanella. At the same time, together with his brother Arturo, he expanded his father's business by making use of high-level professional manpower and artists to whom he entrusted the execution of the furnishings of many homes he designed.
