Centro Progetti Tecno Biography
In 1970 Tecno became a well-known international brand in the office and large community furniture sector. Meanwhile, Osvaldo Borsani develops his organizational vision of the company, focusing on design as a collective and choral process. This vision is realized with the creation of the Tecno Project Center. This choice stands out in an era where a designer's signature was a predominant obsession, with some companies relying exclusively on collaboration with big names to succeed. Ahead of his time, since today it is the brands that guarantee the product and not the signatures, Osvaldo Borsani creates the Tecno Project Center. He remains a point of reference, but the management of projects and relationships is entrusted to Marco Fantoni and Valeria Borsani, while Enrico Regondi, historical manager of the technical office, Roberto Davoli, communications manager, Kugo Toru, Japanese designer, and Eugenio Gerli , always a friend, strengthen the internal front. A factory manager is also hired to coordinate all departments. The profound interaction that exists between these people, together with their collaborators, ensures that each project begins as an intuition and an idea, and proceeds towards the creation of the product, the production system, the marketing and communication strategy, the distribution, the work and assistance. The first result of the Tecno Project Center is Modus, presented in January 1972 in Cologne: a chair made of nylon and available in six colours, suitable for offices, waiting rooms, auditoriums, stadiums and homes. As soon as international attention was gained for Modus, a new chair was developed with a completely different concept, shape and material: it will be WS, a bench in harmonic steel mesh with a granite base, which will initially be used by Alitalia agencies around the world and subsequently in the waiting areas of the large airports, starting with Malpensa.
