Józef Marian Chierowski (1927-2007) was a renowned Polish designer. In 1952 he graduated from the Faculty of Interior Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław (PWSSP). After graduating, he embarked on a successful career in interior design.
Over the years, Chierowski held various academic roles at the Academy of Fine Arts, becoming head of the design department in 1976 and running the furniture design studio together with Piotr Karpiński. He also directed material design courses within the Academy.
In addition to his academic activity, Chierowski was associated with the furniture factory "Świebodzicka Fabryka Mebli" in Świebodzice. He was responsible for the design of the "type 366" armchair, which was mass-produced at the aforementioned factory.
Chierowski's talent was also manifested in the design of the interiors of important institutions, including the Provincial Public Library of Wrocław and Kalisz, the interiors of ZETO in Wrocław (created in collaboration with a team), the interiors of the Trauma Surgery Clinic of Wrocław Medical Academy and the interiors of the Lower Silesian Medical Diagnostic Center "Dolmed" (1977, thanks to the contribution of a design team). Additionally, Chierowski designed numerous pieces of furniture, for which he received prestigious awards, including the Design Council Award in 1960 and the Miastoprojekt Award in 1974.
