C.h. Christensen Biography

Carlos Hugo Christensen was born in Santiago del Estero in 1914, he was an Argentine director, screenwriter and film producer, but he was of Danish origin on his father's side. Christensen directed fifty-four feature films between 1946 until his retirement, some of which are considered masterpieces of what is known as the golden era of Argentine cinema. Si Muero antes de despertor (If I Should Die Before I Wake) and No abras nunca esa puerta (Never Open That Door), were part of a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2016. In both films, known for their exquisite cinematography, Christensen was assisted by famed cinematographer Pablo Tabernero. In the mid-1950s he moved to Brazil where he founded his own film studio, Carlos Hugo Christensen Produções Cinematográficas.
He died on November 30, 1999, at his home in Rio de Janeiro, at the time he was working on La casa de azúcar (The Sugar House). The unfinished film was based on a short story by Silvina Ocampo.
