Giacomo Francesco Cipper Detto Il Todeschini Biography
Todeschini Giacomo Francesco (Feldkirch, 1664 - Milan, 1736) Giacomo Francesco Todeschini was a painter active in Italy in the first half of the 18th century, born in Austria and moved to Italy towards the end of the 17th century. One of his first works is from 1700 "Still life with plate of cherries, plate of figs, cheeses, celery and chalice", now preserved in a private collection in Como. It was therefore hypothesized that Todeschini initially dedicated himself only to the representation of still lifes, then once he arrived in Italy he approached the painting of genre scenes. The paintings of the first decade were characterized by very bright colors, with scenes set outdoors, while the works of the later phase of his career featured indoor compositions with darker colors. Todeschini, unlike many genre painters of the 17th century, always avoided melancholy and thoughtful attitudes, always maintaining an easy sense of humour, even when it did not suit the theme of the painting, as in "La Carità", one of his last works. , preserved in a private collection in Vienna. His still life works, which take those of the German painter Joseph Heinz the Younger as reference and inspiration, increasingly convince critics more than genre paintings, as they are closer to the artist's temperament.
