Pino Colla Biography

Pino Colla (1939 - ) was born in 1939 and in 1957 he attended the Galileo photography school in Milan and collaborated as an assistant with large format photographers for Vincenzo Carrese's Fototecnica Publifoto. His interest in cinema led him to move to Rome where he learned cinematographic technique alongside qualified directors of photography. He was called to direct, as Director of Photography, the feature film “Spazio tempo zero” directed by Roberto Gavioli, presented at the Venice Film Festival in 1969. After a brief experience in New York, where he made advertising films, he returned to Italy and collaborates with international film and advertising production companies, with Italian and foreign TV. In 1970 he exhibited the personal photographic exhibition “RITSOS: images and poetry” curated by Lanfranco Colombo at the Galleria il Diaframma in Milan. At the Pompidou center in Paris he is present with a film researching language through images and music entitled "Paris Vision". With repeated stays, he deepened his knowledge of the Middle East by creating documentaries and photographic images in the area. In recent years, he abandoned documentary filmmaking to dedicate himself full time to research photography. One of his photographic works is at the Carrara modern art museum in Bergamo. In the year 2009/010 he exhibited the personal "Immagini d'ombre" at the Cardano gallery in Pavia, a photographic research on the Archaic Greek Myth. In 2011 he was invited to the MIA Art Fair in Milan with his latest works, entitled “Segreti silenzi”. He is reviewed in specialist magazines in the sector and travels for personal interest and research in Europe, the United States, the Middle East and China.
