Paola Consolo Biography
Paola Consolo (Venice, 1908 – Milan, 1 February 1933) was an Italian painter. Paola Consolo was the daughter of Eugenia Consolo, poet and theater writer, and granddaughter of Margherita Sarfatti. In 1931 she married Gigiotti Zanini. She died at twenty-four, in 1933, giving birth to her first daughter. Her artistic debut took place at the first Mostra del Novecento Italiano, organized by Sarfatti at the Permanente in Milan in 1926. Her talent had been appreciated by Medardo Rosso and Achille Funi, who had been her teacher, even if the artist can be considered self-taught, so much so that Funi would later reveal: "When Paola came to paint in my studio, I saw many things and learned from her". At the Venice Biennale in 1928 he exhibited a Self-Portrait; he returned to the Biennale in 1930 and 1932. In 1929 he participated in the II Mostra del Novecento Italiano with the works La canzone, Donna con Aragosta, which is located at the Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan, and Bacino in Venice. Internationally, he exhibited in Paris (1929), Nice (1929) and Basel (1930). In 1931 he was present at the first edition of the Roman Quadrennial. In 1933, at the fourth exhibition of the Regional Fascist Fine Arts Union of Lombardy, the works Bambino, Vecchia Signora, The Little Girl, Still Life and Le Focette were exhibited.
