Trewin Copplestone Biography
Trewin Copplestone was born in Dartmouth, Devon in 1921. Artist, editor, lecturer, journalist and writer, he studied at Nottingham College of Arts and Crafts and Goldsmiths' College School of Art. He had a diverse career as he taught mural painting at Hammersmith College of Art; he was a visiting art history lecturer; managing editor, then director of publishing for the Hamlyn Group; ran his own publishing house; broadcast on television, including the London Weekend television series Art for All; and wrote and edited art books, including Architecture, an introduction for children, 1969. Copplestone also designed theater sets and costumes for Bernard Miles's Mermaid Theater and the Margate Stage Theatre. Public works included fiberglass Bull Forms for the Bull Ring shopping centre, Birmingham, 1963, and a mural for the Carlisle Civic Centre, 1965.
Took part in mixed exhibitions in London, having a solo exhibition at the Matthiesen Gallery, 1957. Died in 2012.
