Ferdinando Coppola Biography
He was born in Viareggio in 1945. After obtaining his artistic maturity, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara and in 1971 he. diploma from the sculpture course. The following year he enrolled in the painting course, establishing excellent relationships with the teachers of the various disciplines: PC Santini, teacher of art history, L. Bernardi, teacher of Aesthetics and Theory of Visual Perception, and D. Viggiano, teacher of chalcographic techniques. His artistic activity began in 1970 with a personal exhibition at the Procellaria gallery in Sarzana and, in the same year, he was chosen as the representative of the Academy at the "II Esposicao de arte university" in Lisbon, achieving unexpected success. While still a student he attended the studio of C. Mattioli and, in Viareggio, those of R. Santini and M. Colzi. In 1974 he obtained the appointment to teach pictorial disciplines at the 1st artistic high school in via Ripetta in Rome. In these years he met G. Turcato edE. Greek and attends their workshops. In the same year he exhibited at the E. Alfieri gallery in via del Corso. Having finished his teaching period in Rome, he returned to Viareggio and continued his teaching career at the artistic high school of Lucca. Despite having abandoned sculpture, he continued to frequent the laboratories of the Henraux company where he met M. Marini and H. Moore. In 1974 he was among the founders of the AAA (Association of Art Amateurs). Around 1978 he met some painters of the New Figuration, among these: O. Martinelli, S. Luporini, G.Banchieri. He collaborates in the staging of the exhibitions of the Viareggio Literary Prize (E. Greco, U. Attardi, R. Guttuso, A. Murer, etc.). In 1980 he was among the founding members of the AAV (Association of Versilia Artists) and was its vice-president until 1993. In 1982 he obtained command from the SBAAA at the Palazzo Mansi Museum in Lucca where he was responsible for the teaching section. He holds painting, sculpture and graphics courses. In 1985 he returned to teaching. For some years he has dedicated himself to graphic design; the latest work is the logo for Agenda 21 of the Environment Department of the Province of Lucca.
