Sereno (xx Sec.) Cordani Biography
Born in Pozzaglio, he attended courses held by Carlo Carrà and Achille Funi and by the engraver Benvenuto Disertori at the Brera Academy, graduating brilliantly in 1947. In reality, Cordani had already achieved a certain fame, not only locally, at that time , as during the conflict he had served at the Ministry of the Air Force in Rome and here he had frequented the Roman artistic environment, where he had established significant relationships. Even in the Milanese cultural environment he had numerous friends, from his classmates, to the younger Fo, in the theater environment, bonding with Strehehir and Piccoli, friends who brought out his propensity for scenography. He dedicated himself to the latter for a long time, collaborating with a well-known Cremonese theater company and receiving important recognition, including national ones. Above all, his love for the theater influenced his poetics, which were also very complex, pushing it towards a symbolic and surreal drift and detaching it from the original realistic - expressionist formulation. Cordani's world is absolutely and totally Cordanian, even when it develops within the terms attributable to a previous or ongoing poetics, thanks to an extraordinary inventive richness and an assiduous, curious and yet methodical search for means and languages. All his work achieves refined results that are recognized as among the significant of his time. Cordani was among the greatest exponents of the Fantastic in Italy.
