Demetrio Cosola, painter born on 22 September 1851 in San Sebastiano Po, lived his entire short life between Chivasso and Turin. At eighteen he began to attend the Albertina Academy in Turin and subsequently taught there.
Despite his short life, Cosola's production was great: he painted around 200 landscapes, as many portraits, around a hundred paintings of various subjects and made many drawings and sketches. Demetrio Cosola was one of the best exponents of Verismo that flourished in Piedmont in the last two decades of the last century. In his works Cosola stands out for a particular delicacy and clarity of color, for the profound attention, more psychological than visual, used in portraying the characters. The artist paints the harmony of nature and subjects taken from the daily life of the humble.
However, he died in Chivasso at the age of forty-four in February 1895 due to violent pneumonia.
