Toni Costa Biography

Toni Costa was born in Padua in 1935 and was one of the co-founders of Gruppo N of Padua in 1959 together with Edoardo Landi, Manfredo Massironi, Ennio Chiggio and Alberto Biasi.
The group was a nucleus of Italian programmed and kinetic art, which had as its objective the search for a new definition of art that incorporated painting, sculpture, architecture and industrial product. In 1960, Costa participated in the first Gruppo N exhibition held in Padua with the title "No one is invited to intervene". The activities of the group and the individual members are closely related and there are numerous works created collectively.
In 1961, his works were present in various exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, such as the "Art Abstrait Constructif International" exhibition held in the Denise René Gallery in Paris and the Zagreb Biennial. In 1963, he received the first prize at the San Remo Biennale and the following year he was present at the Venice Biennale and at the "Nouvelle Tendances" exhibition in the Louvre Palace, in Paris. After being present in several group exhibitions, he held some solo exhibitions such as at the Waddel Gallery in New York and at the Barozzi Gallery in Venice in 1969, and at the Lorenzelli Gallery in Milan in 1973.
His works have been exhibited in exhibitions dedicated to programmed and kinetic art, such as the one at the Palazzo Reale in Milan in 1983 and at the Niccoli Art Gallery in Parma in 2001
He died in Padua in 2013.
