Guillaume Coustou, born in Lyon on 29 November 1677 and died in Paris on 22 February 1746, was a French sculptor who worked for Kings Louis XIV and Louis XV.

Guillaume Coustou, born in Lyon on 29 November 1677 and died in Paris on 22 February 1746, was a French sculptor who worked for Kings Louis XIV and Louis XV.
He won the Colbert Prize (Prix de Rome) together with his brother, which consisted of a four-year scholarship to study at the French Academy in Rome. However, he abandoned the academy, rejecting its rules. He subsequently worked in the workshop of Pierre Legros and after returning to Paris, he assisted his uncle in the creation of the monumental "Hunger and Mercury" equestrian statues for the Castle of Marly. In 1704, he was admitted to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture and later became director of the Academy in 1733.
Coustou died in Paris on 22 February 1746.
