Donato Creti was born in Cremona on 24 February 1671 and then, in 1714, he died in Bologna, where he had moved. Creti was a painter specializing in ornamental decorations and a quadraturist. He frequented the studio of Lorenzo Pasinelli, an intelligent and refined painter who left a very strong imprint on the young artist, gifted with extraordinary ability. Thanks to his acquaintance with Count Alessandro Fava, who immediately recognized his talent, Creti obtained hospitality and financial support, as well as the possibility of exhibiting his works in his palace. Creti paid homage to the generosity of his patron, donating numerous works to him.
Creti was also involved in ecclesiastical commissions, in fact, he created numerous altarpieces for the churches of Bologna and the surrounding areas. The success of these works led him to the nomination of Knight of the Golden Spur.
Donato Creti died in Bologna on 29 January 1749.
