Crivellino, pseudonym of Giovanni Crivelli, was perhaps born in Milan between 1680 and 1690 and died in 1760 in Parma, where he worked for many years. However, there are no documentary sources that provide information on the places and dates of the painter's birth and death. According to sources, Crivelli began painting in his father's workshop, where he turned his pictorial interests to the depiction of animals, in particular birds and fish. His collaboration with the architect and superintendent Filippo Juvarra occurred thanks to the decoration of eight fireplace guards in the central hall of the Savoy hunting lodge in Stupinigi. Crivelli's stylistic path is difficult to define: some works created in collaboration with Felice Boselli show a strong attention to animal psychology, alongside a new expressive virtuosity. Crivellino was the son of Angelo Maria Crivelli, known as Crivellone.
Crivelli died in Parma in 1760.
