Frederik de Wit, born in Gouda in 1629 and died at the end of July 1706, was a Dutch cartographer and artist. He spent much of his life in Amsterdam, from around 1648 until his death, during the Dutch Golden Age. In 1655, De Wit inaugurated a printing press and shop called "the White Paper", which quickly gained international fame. Among the first cartographic works created by De Wit are a map of Haarlem from 1648 and several views of the city. Over the course of his career, De Wit created many atlases, and in 1662 he gained citizenship rights in Amsterdam, becoming a member of the Guild of St. Luke in 1664. In 1694, he was named a good citizen of the city of Amsterdam.
De Wit died in July 1706.
