Umberto Del Negro Biography
Umberto del Negro was born in Paularo in 1940. The artist specialized in the production of works made of iron and glass, among which "Metal Trees" stands out. Del Negro trained at the School of Graphic Arts in Hamburg and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. His artistic production is characterized by a personal reinterpretation of the cultural heritage and social life of the Friulian mountains, in particular of Carnia, where he created works that often portray women, peasants and elderly people, showing them in their sadness and depth. He exhibited his works in important European cities such as Helsinki, Berlin, Paris, Vienna and Zurich, obtaining several international awards and recognition. Del Negro had his studio-atelier in Montegrotto, where he lived, and for a certain period of time he was also director of the city's Glass Museum. Among his initiatives aimed at cultural dissemination, we remember the International Ceramics Symposium which he organized in 1972 in Gubbio and the Global Craft School, of which he was director from 1980 to 1994. Del Negro died in his home in Montegrotto Terme in 2017.
