Auguste Delacroix, born on 27 January 1809 in Boulogne and died in the same city in 1868, was a French painter specialized in the representation of marine scenes. His most famous works depict the French and North African coasts, but the painter also created some paintings with Africa as their subject. During a trip to Morocco and Algeria in 1849, Delacroix produced a series of drawings and watercolors that helped cement his reputation as an orientalist.
Delacroix's works were presented at the French Salons between 1835 and 1865, and won many medals. In the final years of his career, Delacroix moved to Italy, where he continued to paint despite health problems, suffering from paralysis that forced him to paint with his left hand. Today, some of Auguste Delacroix's works are exhibited in museums in Calais, La Rochelle, Pontoise, Reims and Cologne.
Auguste Delacroix died in Boulogne in 1868.
