Louis-Émile Durandelle was a French photographer born in 1839 and died in 1917. Together with the photographer Hyacinthe César Delmaet, he founded a studio specializing in architectural photography. He immortalized, in particular, the construction of the Eiffel Tower, the Paris Opera and the Sacré Coeur. In the second half of the 19th century, restoration works were frequent and Durandelle documented some of them, such as the restoration of Mont Saint-Michel by the architect Corroyer.
