J.-L. de Marne was made a member of the Académie Royale in 1783, but did not become a full member.
He appears to have cared little for official honors and later, in 1815, showed no interest in becoming a member of the Institut de France. However, he was awarded the Légion d'honneur by Charles X of France on 23 April 1828, a year before his death.
