Jean-Louis de Marne (1752-1829) was a French artist, who dedicated himself to painting and engraving.
Born in Brussels, he moved to Paris at the age of 12. De Marne studied at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in Paris.
He concentrated on landscape and genre painting, in which he was greatly influenced by 17th-century Dutch masters such as Aelbert Cuyp, the van Ostade brothers, Paulus Potter, Adriaen van de Velde and Karel Dujardin, all artists who enjoyed great popularity in Paris at that time.
The Emperor chose him to paint “l'Entrevue de Napoléon et de Pie VII dans la forêt de Fontainebleau”.
