Jorge Enrique Jimenez Martinez, aka Deredia, was born in the city of Heredia, Costa Rica, on October 4, 1954. He studied sculpture at the Castella Conservatory, where he obtained his high school diploma. His sculptural activity came to life in the 1970s. At the age of 22, in 1976, he moved to Italy thanks to a scholarship granted by the Italian government, and began traveling through Europe where he came into contact with the main artistic movements of the continent.
