Michel Deville (1931 - 2023) born in 1931 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Michel Deville began as assistant director to Henri Decoin. In the midst of the New Wave, he founded the Eléfilm company to produce his first self-directed film, Tonight or Never (1960), with Nina Companeez on the screenplay. They collaborated on eleven films until 1971 with Raphaël ou le débauché (1971). His subsequent films, Adorable menteuse (1961), À cause, because of a woman... (1962) or Benjamin or the memoirs of a virgin (1967), comedies well received by critics and audiences, stand out from the production of time from their imaginative tone. His later films focus on an original attention to form: Le Dossier 51 (1978) with a subjective camera, or La Petite nere (1982) produced without dialogue. In the 1990s its production slowed down. He also publishes poetry collections.
