Carmelina Di Capri (Capri, 1920 – 2004) was an Italian painter. Carmelina Alberino, better known to all as Carmelina Di Capri, was born in Capri in 1920 into a family of fishermen. Like many women of the time, she worked as a seamstress at the "Adelaide" shop and was considered a family member. His first exhibition was held in Rome in 1959 at the “La Feluca” Gallery. The beginning of her artistic activity was accidental: she spent her little savings to buy a box of oil paints to entertain her son during his recovery after a serious illness, starting to paint herself. Invariably his paintings, rich in energetic colours, depict landscapes of Capri revisited with strong personal connotations. Walking through the streets of Capri, her paintings were noticed by other important artists such as Giorgio De Chirico and by international art critics who, by organizing exhibitions in Italy and abroad, made her one of the best known and most esteemed Italian figures of the contemporary Naive art.
