Giuseppe Diotti Biography
Giuseppe Diotti, born on 1 March 1779 in Casalmaggiore, was a painter, teacher and collector. Born into a modest family, Diotti began his studies at a school for poor children. Fortunately, with the help of Paolo Fadigati, a Napoleonic official, he had the opportunity to obtain a scholarship at the Brera Academy, where he was able to study ancient and Renaissance art, discovering the artists Raphael and Leonardo. In Rome, the painter had the opportunity to meet the major exponents of the neoclassical movement, who influenced his works. His artistic ability allowed him to have several clients, among whom were Lombard nobles who commissioned portraits, cycles of frescoes and sacred and historical paintings, as well as many churches and ecclesiastics present in the cities and provinces of Bergamo and Cremona. In 1836, he dedicated himself to the purchase of a palace in Casalmaggiore, where he organized his precious collection. His home soon became a point of reference for students and fellow citizens who could visit the collection.
Giuseppe Diotti died on 30 January 1846 in Casalmaggiore.
