Antonio Discovolo was a painter, born in Bologna in 1874 and died in Bonassola in 1956. His artistic training was initiated by his father Mario, who was also a painter. In 1898 in Torre del Lago he had the opportunity to meet Giacomo Puccini and Plinio Nomellini, and it was thanks to his acquaintance with the latter that he approached the pointillist technique.
Antonio Discovolo moved to Rome to attend the Artistic Club, where he met Nino Costa, who led him to symbolist poetics and made him join the "In Arte Libertas" group. He participated in many exhibitions in the capital with the group, including the Venice Biennale. In 1902, together with Nino Costa, Discovolo moved to Marina di Pisa where he painted evocative Ligurian landscapes en plein air. Subsequently, his artistic language changed towards a solid naturalistic impressionism which characterized his painting from the 1920s onwards. Discovolo died in Bonassola in 1956.
