Dormice Biography
Dormice (1999 - ) is a group formed in Vienna in 1999 by three artists: Dougal Graham, Heinrich Nicolaus, Sawan Yawnghwe, coming from Europe, America, Asia. They live and work between Vienna, Paris and Panzano in Chianti, in laboratory studios active 24 hours a day. DORMICE® have a particular aptitude for matching everything with everything: music with sports, tags with fashion, the history of art with war and cooking recipes with Caravaggio-esque tones. There is no simulation, no posing of their subjects: they coexist peacefully on the canvas, because they were born choral, they were born polygamous, they were born pantheistic, they were born Gregorian, polyphonic, stereo, and in dolby-surround. There is nothing that doesn't interest DORMICE®. Among the main solo exhibitions that have been dedicated to the group include: in 1999 at the Ernst Hilger gallery in Vienna, at the Third Avenue Gallery in Vancouver, in 2000 at the Alessandro Bagnai gallery in Siena, at the Museo delle Papesse in Siena and at the Carini Gallery in Rimini; in 2001 at the Carini Gallery in Rimini and at the Miscetti Gallery in Rome. In 2002 at the Hernst Hilger Gallery in Paris. In 2003 they will be at Fernando La Torre's gallery in Zaragoza. While the group exhibitions in which they have been included include: in 1999 “Spiele” at the Burgenlaendisches Landesmuseum Eisenstadt in Austria, in 2000 “A l'ordere du jour” at the Grand Palais in Paris; at the Polilab in Caserta and at the Pio Capponi Civic Museum in Terracina. In 2001 “Le tribe dell'arte” at the Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, in 2002 “Geipeg” at the Dina Carola gallery in Naples, and “Recicling” at the Ufbahn Postdamer Platz in Berlin.
