Martin Drolling, born in 1752 in Oberbergheim and died in 1817 in Paris, was a French painter of the neoclassical period. He received his first art lessons from an unknown painter from Schlestadt and later decided to continue his education at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Here he deepened his knowledge by copying the paintings exhibited at the Louvre Museum, in particular those of Dutch and Flemish works.
Thanks to the experience gained, Drolling became an excellent painter capable of creating highly detailed genre scenes with geometrically perfect compositions. He also made numerous portraits, lithographs and etchings. Despite the importance of his work, it is difficult to find his works on the antiques market.
One of Drolling's most famous paintings is "Interior of a Kitchen", made in 1815 and presented at the Salon of 1817. This painting momentarily brought the artist fame. Today, many of his works are kept in the Louvre Museum.
Martin Drolling died in Paris in 1817.
