Marco Augusto Duenas (1971 - ) is a sculptor, born in Cordoba, Spain, in 1971. In 1986 he joined the School of Arts and Crafts of the capital for three years, combining his studies with work as a jewelry designer. He created sculptures for private individuals and restored the altar of the church of the former Merced County Council convent. In 1993 he graduated from the "Mateo Inurria" art school in Córdoba. In 2005 Marco Augusto won a competition promoted by Pope Benedict XVI to create a sculpture of Santa Rafaela Maria Porras, to be exhibited in the Vatican. The sculpture, 4.5 meters high and made of white marble, is exhibited on the external facade of St. Peter's Basilica and was blessed by the Pope on 20 January 2010. In 2010 it won another competition promoted by Pope Benedict XVI to create a sculpture of San Marone, to be exhibited in the Vatican. The sculpture, 5.4 meters high and made of white marble, is exhibited on the external facade of St. Peter's Basilica and blessed by the Pope on 23 February 2011.
