Raoul Dufy (Le Havre 1877-Forcalquier 1953)He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Le Havre and then that of Paris, where he went in 1901. After the First World War he made trips to Provence, Sicily and Morocco, and stayed in various city ​​in France. In 1952 he obtained the International Prize for painting at the Venice Biennale. After an impressionist beginning, his meeting with Matisse in 1905 led him to a form of Fauvism which however never sacrifices the anecdotal and picturesque detail to colour. After a phase of adhesion to Cubism, around 1910, the activity he subsequently carried out in the field of decorative art (as a designer of fabrics and tapestries, as a ceramist, as a book illustrator) allowed him to recover his bright palette, which he superimposed a vibrant and allusive graphic touch, in images of teeming crowds, with renewed impressionistic echoes and sometimes bordering on the speck.
