Alexandre Dupendant, born on 19 February 1833 in Paris, was a caricaturist and illustrator who, despite his skill, has unfortunately been forgotten in the annals of history. The only testimony on this artist is found in a text of the "Bilio-iconographic Review" of 1896. In this work it is underlined how Dupendant was particularly skilled in handling colors and their arrangement within the scenes. In this regard, the artist specialized in the use of watercolors and tempera. At the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, for example, three portraits of the caricaturist are preserved: that of a lawyer, of a clergyman and, finally, of the lawyer and politician Jules Favre. If it is true that political caricature represents a large part of Dupendant's artistic production, there is no shortage of episodes linked to the Franco-German war of 1870 and costumes prepared for the theatre.
Alexandre Dupendant died on 8 August 1884 in Paris.
