Henrik Eiben is a German artist born in 1975 in Tokyo. Today he lives and works in Germany.
Eiben graduated in 2004 from the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. In 2010 he was artist in residence at the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) in São Paulo, Brazil. The latter influenced his practice, where his art began to adopt a South American embrace of sensuality. Also, he was influenced by American minimalism. The compositions of his works do not derive from mathematical systems, but develop intuitively.
Eiben works predominantly with unconventional materials, especially fabrics ranging from cheap synthetic leather to cashmere felts. The intelligent interplay between distinctly different mediums and highly contrasting color schemes allow Eiben an artistic freedom that results in exceptionally engaging works of art.
His work has been represented in individual and group institutional exhibitions across Europe and was most recently presented at Kunstraumpotsdam in the individual exhibition "OFF SITE" (2018).
