Adel El Siwi was born in Beheira in 1952.
He completed his art studies at Cairo University between 1970 and 1976. In 1980 he moved to Milan, Italy, where he lived and worked for about a decade, before returning to Cairo.
Adel El Siwi's impressive and very personal painting technique gives life to a body of works that is both highly sensual and conceptually lucid. El Siwi creates a refined network of cultured quotes taken from literature, cinema and art history, appropriating the animals of other artists and renewing them to create a universe in which every creature, human or animal, participates fully, not subject to a hierarchical classification, but as a protagonist.
This artist has exhibited his works in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Egypt and abroad. His production has been exhibited many times at the Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art in Cairo, as well as in several galleries in Egypt and around the world. He represented Egypt at the Sharjah Biennale and the Venice Biennale. His works are present in numerous private collections and in important museums such as the British Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the IMA in Paris and Mathaf Doha in Qatar.
