Armani Ernesto Luciano Biography
Ernesto Luciano Armani (1898 - 1986) was an Italian painter active particularly in Liguria.
After the end of the war, in 1919 he decided to enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts, but his commitment did not last long as he soon moved to Milan to study Architecture, graduating in 1922. Immediately afterwards he went to Berlin where, in 1923, he managed to stage his first solo show at the Kurfürstendamm with the help of Luciano Baldessari.
His skill was noticed by the German press which offered him flattering praise and helped him enter the world of cinema as a set designer. In 1926 he was called to direct the "Bottega di Poesia" gallery in Milan, where in 1927 he held a solo show which was a great success. This led to a long series of exhibitions, travel and incessant work.
Then came the great solo show in Trieste at the Michelazzi Gallery in 1928, where Armani exhibited works of great commitment and considerable size painted in Venice, Florence and Rome; the Revoltella Museum purchased one of the most beautiful works, "The Critics". From 1928 he began to explore Holland and exhibited in the most important galleries of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Tilburg and The Hague, where in 1929 he presented a series of specially created Italian views.
During the twenties, thanks to his various Milanese contacts, Armani also dedicated himself a lot to the creation of advertising graphics, especially of a tourist nature for ENIT, and in particular he created various sketches in black and white, in ink, in pure Art Deco style, which were published in national newspapers.
In 1930 Armani returned to Rovereto and met the critic Carlo Piovan who, enthusiastic about his work, wanted to present it and make it known in Trento, with a large exhibition at the Circolo Sociale, followed by other exhibitions in Milan, Genoa and Biella. In this very fruitful period of great enthusiasm for his work, Armani created many large watercolours.
He also worked and traveled in South America in the years following the Second World War
