William Etty (York 1787 - 1849) was a British painter.
The son of a miller, despite modest conditions he managed to enroll at the Royal Academy in London, becoming a direct student of Thomas Lawrence.
His production focuses above all on subjects of a historical or mythological nature.
During his forty-year career he produced a wide range of landscapes and portraits, but is most famous for his series of female nudes.
He has been described as the natural heir of the old masters, rivaling Rubens and the great Venetian masters.
Among his works are "Beauty that guides Youth" (1832), "Ulysses and the Sirens" (1837), "Judgment of Paris", "Diana and Endymion", "The Three Graces" (around 1840).
