John Ferneley was a 19th century British painter, born in Melton Mowbray in 1815. Although his life remains partially unknown, it is known for certain that he worked in Manchester, York and Leeds. What makes it difficult to distinguish his work from that of his father, John Ferneley Senior, is that the two artists collaborated on many paintings. In particular, John Ferneley Junior had the habit of signing his paintings with his full name, while his father used only the initial of his name: "J. Ferneley". It is possible that the young Ferneley received his first artistic training working with his father creating engravings for the famous 'The Hunting Exploits of Earl Sandor' series of color prints in Leicestershire.
John Ferneley died in Manchester in 1862.
