Berto Ferrari was born in Bogliasco (Genoa) in 1887 and died in Genoa Quarto in 1965. He was a student of Tullio Quinzio at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa. During the First World War, Ferrari was included in the Alpini corps and this prevented him from completing his academic studies, but he created a series of small paintings entitled "Small impressions". These paintings represent scenes of mountain life and rural landscapes. Ferrari's creations are his seascapes, depicting the sea, the cliffs, majestic buildings and houses of Liguria. The force of the sea waves hitting the rocks and the facades of the houses constitute an unmistakable feature of Ferrari's paintings. The colors of the houses, just like in Ferrari's paintings, are transformed by the salt of the sea storms, the summer sun and the autumn rains. There are few paintings in which Ferrari portrays human figures, among these there are portraits of his daughter, small figures in shipyards or on beaches.
He died in Genoa Quarto in 1965.
