Jorge Ferrari Hardoy Biography

Jorge Ferrari Hardoy was born in Buenos Aires in 1914 and gained recognition as one of the pre-eminent founding members of the Austral Group (1937-1941). This group, born from the meeting between Bonet, Kurchan and Ferrari Hardoy in Le Corbusier's studio in Paris, provided a contribution of fundamental theoretical importance to modern Argentine architecture. After graduating from the UBA School of Architecture in 1937, Jorge Ferrari Hardoy undertook a faculty-organized study, which continued into his work with Le Corbusier on a project for the City of Buenos Aires. Throughout his career, Ferrari Hardoy has dedicated himself mainly to urban issues. In 1947 he was Argentina's representative at the CIAM, while in 1948 he assumed the position of Director of the EPBA (Estudio del Plan de Buenos Aires), an office in charge of the urban planning of the city. In 1949 he directed the Urban Planning Exposition at the IV Inter-American Municipal Congress. In 1955, he was responsible for the organization of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Litoral, where he was appointed director of the Institute of Architecture and Planning in 1956. Finally, in 1964, he took on the role of adjunct professor at the UBA Faculty of Architecture.
