Ciro Ferri was born in Rome on 3 September 1634. He was a painter and sculptor who trained at the school of Pietro da Cortona. Thanks to Cortona, he had the opportunity to work first in the Gallery of the Quirinale Palace and then in the large decorative undertaking of the Pitti Palace in Florence. At Palazzo Pitti, Ferri completed the frescoes in the Sala di Apollo and executed those in the Sala di Saturno. Upon the death of his master in 1669, Ferri took charge of the cartoons for the mosaics of the right side nave of St. Peter's. In 1670 he began to paint the dome of Sant'Agnese in Agone, following the example of Giovanni Lanfranco in S. Andrea della Valle. Ferri died in Rome in 1689.
