Egisto Ferroni Biography

Egisto Ferroni was born in Lastra a Signa, near Florence, on 14 December 1835. He began his artistic training under the guidance of his father, a master stonemason, and then enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.
After completing the academy, he decided to abandon the historical subject to concentrate on the rural theme, portraying characters and scenes from the Tuscan countryside with an incisive drawing and a strong plastic emphasis. The most productive period of Ferroni's life was the decade between 1878 and 1888, during which he created numerous paintings commissioned by the Count of Frassineto. The painter was also a member of the Society of Fine Arts and an honorary academic of the Florentine Academy of Drawing since 1882. In 1889, he participated in the Universal Exhibition in Paris presenting "The Mother and The Woodcutter". Ferroni also created some sketches and drawings for the Bellariva artistic ceramic factory.
In 1908, Ferroni settled in Florence, where he lived with his son Arrigo until his death on May 25, 1912.
