Rainer Fetting is a German painter, born in Wilhelmshaven in 1949.
In the period 1972-76, he trained at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and in 1978 he benefited from a scholarship that allowed him to go to New York. The turning point of his career was in Berlin, in 1977: he founded an artistic community in the Kreuzberg district (Galerie am Moritzplatz). The group has achieved notable international recognition as an interpreter of a new painting.
Fetting's artistic research stands out for the strong expressiveness of his colors and features, recalling German expressionism and great artists such as Velázquez and Van Gogh. With his violent colours, this artist manages to express the complexity of reality with a sometimes tragic intensity, thanks to the strength and generosity of his pictorial gesture. The artist also explored photography, cinema and sculpture, creating monumental works.
Although he received numerous awards as a sculptor and painter, his research work in the photographic field is less well known. Major exhibitions on Fetting have been held in various German and European exhibition spaces, including London, Hamburg, Berlin and Milan.
