Andrea Figari was born in Sassari on 30 November 1858. Painter famous for his seascapes, he attended the Special School of Landscape at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts. He made his debut at the Genoese Promoters and in 1882 he participated in the Exhibition of the Promoter of Fine Arts in Turin. Having moved to Genoa, Andrea Figari became friends with many painters, including Guido Meineri, Angelo Costa, Giuseppe Pennasilico and Cesare Viazzi. In 1895 he was Academician of Merit of Ligustics. Figari's works feature long, stringy brushstrokes, adhering to the so-called Gray School, which was characterized by the Northern Italian approach to landscape through anti-academic and naturalist painting.
Andrea Figari died on 20 November 1945 in his home in Genoa-Sturla.
